Coastal Connecticut will be spared the wrath of the storm, which is expected to drop as much as 18 inches of snow across northern New England.
The storm will begin as rain Wednesday, with about a quarter of an inch possible. High temperatures will approach 50 degrees.
Rain and snow showers are expected Wednesday evening, becoming all snow after midnight. Some thunder is also possible. Temperatures will drop into the mid-teens with blustery southeast winds of 13 to 18 mph becoming northwest at 19 to 24 mph after midnight.
The chance of precipitation is 90 percent, with less than a half-inch accumulation of new snow.
Northern Connecticut is under a Winter Weather Advisory from 10 p.m. Wednesday to noon Thursday. The warning does not extend as far south as Fairfield County. But it warns of sleet and freezing rain as well as a flash freeze overnight as temperatures fall.
Snow showers could continue across Fairfield County on Thursday before noon and could disrupt the morning commute. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high in the low 20s. Conditions will be blustery, with a northwest wind of 25 mph, and gusts as high as 39 mph as the unseasonable cold weather continues.
It will be mostly clear Thursday night but temperatures will plunge into the single digits and wind chill values could be as low as -5. Blustery northwest winds of 17 to 22 mph will decrease to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. But winds could gust as high as 36 mph.
Friday will be mostly sunny, with a high in the mid-30s, which is about 10 degrees below the norm for mid-March in Connecticut.
