Black ice will mainly occur on secondary roads, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued a Wind Chill Advisory from midnight Monday until Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph will create wind chills as low as 18 below zero across Fairfield County as temperatures drop into the single digits Monday night.
Isolated snow showers are expected overnight as an arctic front passes through. That could reduce visibility for drivers and causes locally icy conditions. Motorists are advised to use caution.
Temperatures will rise to only 8 to 12 degrees on Tuesday. Cold will continue Wednesday with sunny skies and a high of 17 to 20 degrees.
Thursday will be cloudy with a high of about 30, with a 40 percent chance of snow Thursday night into Friday. The chance of snow continues Friday with a high of 35.
Prolonged exposure to bitter cold and wind could lead to frostbite and hypothermia. People should bundle up and wear hats and gloves when outdoors.
