The service plaza, which includes a McDonald's, Subway, Dunkin' Donuts, Alltown Convenience Store and an ExxonMobil gas station, is the 20th of 23 highway service plazas that have recently been renovated.

Project Service LLC has a 35-year contract with the state to renovate and operate the service plazas.

Among the renovations are a series of green features and will qualify to operate to "Silver LEED" standards. The facility will use photovoltaic solar panels to decrease its dependence on traditional power source, and will have single-stream recycling and idle-reduction technology for tractor-trailers. It will also include water-efficient restrooms, energy-efficient insulation and lighting, and super-efficient heating and air conditioning units.

“Our Connecticut Service Plaza team is excited to provide great food choices, clean restrooms, fuel and convenience to the large number of travelers who pass through the Fairfield area,” said Paul Landino, president and CEO of Project Service. “We have completed 20 of the service plazas so far, and look forward to continuing to serve those traveling on Connecticut’s highways as we work to renovate the remaining service plazas in the state.”

All the service plazas operates by Project Service are open 24 hours a day and offer different food options, as well as a convenience store and gas station. The plazas also have free WiFi and backup power generators for use during power outages.
