The grant will be used to purchase the Biehn property off of Route 107.
“The purchase and preservation of the Biehn property will have long-term benefits for our community,” Rep. Shaban said in a statement. “Ninety percent of Redding’s drinking water is recharged through the Saugatuck River Watershed, an ecological necessity that will be protected with this acquisition. The procurement of the property also will enable additional linkage to, and creation of, hiking trails and buffers zones around the wetlands to safeguard the Saugatuck Reservoir.”
The town now has one year to work with the Redding Land Trust to negotiate purchase of the property, which must then be approved in a town meeting.
