Residents Robbed While Sleeping

Police were investigating a brazen home burglary Saturday on Hawks Hill Road that occurred while the family was at home. Police said Monday the home was robbed overnight Saturday. Police said someone entered the home and made off with electronics and jewelry after scouring the home's two floors and basement. Missing items included computers, iPods and jewelry. No estimate on the value of the items taken was immediately available.

Sgt. Peter Condos said no sign of forced entry was found. The home has an alarm system that was not activated, and the home's pets apparently were not awakened, he said. The home's residents, including a couple in their 40s, awoke Saturday morning to find that items had been taken.

Condos said it was the first time in several years that someone has burglarized a home while the residents were inside.

"Basically, it's very uncommon to see a burglary of this nature," Condos said. "Obviously, the people who did this are very bold."

No residents were injured. Condos sought to dispel rumors circulating that the home's residents were kept asleep by a gas or other substance during the burglary, saying there are no indications of any chemical use in the home.

Police have increased patrols of the area, Condo said. He's also asking residents to lock their doors and activate their homes' alarm systems. "We should remain very vigilant," he said.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact New Canaan Police at 203-594-3500.
