Roads To Close For Paving For Metro-North Track Work In Stamford, Darien

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Several road will be closed in the next month as Metro-North does rail work on the New Canaan Branch, the City of Stamford announced.

New rail panels will be installed, and the surrounding roads will require paving. Detour routes will be posted two weeks before the project starts.

The projects include the closure of: 

  • Largo Drive from July 22 to July 28; 
  • a portion of Glenbrook Road from July 29 to Aug. 4; 
  • Crescent Street from Aug. 5 to 11; and 
  • Hoyt Street in Darien from Aug. 12 to 18.

Roads will be closed to traffic beginning at 10 a.m. the Friday that the project begins. After the final train Friday, rail service will be suspended until 4 a.m. Monday. Paving will begin at 8 a.m. on the Monday of the project and will be complete, with the road being reopened by 4 p.m. Thursday.

Here are the detour routes:

  • Largo Drive: Traffic will be routed to/from Hope Street to Omega to Riverbend to Largo.
  • Glenbrook Road: Traffic will be routed to/from Cowing and Glenbrook to Courtland to Taylor Reed to Crescent to Glenbrook.
  • Crescent Street: Traffic will be routed from Crescent to Taylor Reed to Courtland to Glenbrook.
  • Hoyt Street, Darien: Traffic will be routed from Hoyt to Woodway to Hope to Camp
