Sleeping Driver Arrested in New Canaan Driveway

A Greenwich man who police said was drunk behind the wheel of a parked vehicle was arrested Friday. Police said a man in a Cascade Road home complained at about 1:26 a.m. about a man sleeping or passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle in a nearby driveway. The car was idling with its lights on.

When officers approached the vehicle, police said the driver, Christopher J. Mayfield, appeared to be dazed and disoriented and smelled of alcohol. Police performed a field sobriety test and then arrested Mayfield, 22, of Hedgerow Lane, on charges of driving under the influence.

Mayfield was released on $250 bond and is scheduled to appear March 30 in Norwalk Superior Court.

In other police news:

• Police were investigating a larceny reported last Thursday at a Shaker Road home. Police said the resident went to police headquarters and said gold and silver coins and $500 in jewelry were taken from the home. Police found no signs of forced entry at the home, but said a door may have been left open. The missing jewelry included three gold rings, a gold cross pendant and chain, and a watch with a leather band.

• Police were investigating the theft of electronic equipment from a vehicle Friday. Police said a took her car to a car wash for cleaning and detailing at about 9:15 a.m. Police said she returned to pick up the car at about 3:30 p.m. and discovered that an iPod Touch and a pair of Bose earphones were missing from a bag in the car. The iPod is valued at about $200, while the earphones are valued at $150.

• Julie Aliapoulios, 42, of Silvermine Road, New Canaan, and Matthew Aliapoulios, 48, of Belden Avenue, Norwalk, were each arrested Friday and charged with disorderly conduct. Police said they responded to call of a dispute that may have become physical at the Silvermine Road residence at about 9 p.m. Police said the two had offered conflicting stories about what happened during the dispute. Both appeared Monday in Norwalk Superior Court.
