The Connecticut Department of Transportation reported no major accidents but said speeds are reduced to 20 to 30 mph on I-95, the Merritt Parkway and I-84. Traffic cameras show snow falling with bumper-to-bumper traffic in most areas across lower Fairfield County.
The entire area is under a Winter Weather Advisory with up to 2 inches of snow possible by the early evening on Tuesday.
The snow will begin to transition to sleet and freezing rain during the evening and will eventually change over to rain after midnight as temperatures climb above freezing. Ice accumulations could be up to a tenth of an inch and an additional inch of snow could fall as well overnight.
The National Weather Service warns that travel will be difficult throughout the storm.
