STAMFORD, Conn. Matthew Badger, the father of the three girls who died in the fire on Christmas Day in Stamford, applied to be the administrator of his daughters estate late last week, his attorney Richard Emery said.
An administrator is needed for the estate because the three girls, Lilly, 10, and twins Sarah and Grace, 7, did not have wills, the attorney said.
The attorney also said he is conducting an investigation into how the fire started, so he and his client can determine for themselves what took place. We have to get to the bottom of it, Emery said, explaining that the police have not shared any information about what they have found.
Stamford police handed over the results of their investigation to State Attorney David Cohen on Tuesday afternoon, and he will decide whether to pursue criminal charges in the fatal fire in the Shippan home.
Its too early to predict anything now, Emery said of Badgers options.
The initial investigation conducted by Stamford fire marshals found that Michael Borcina, a friend of homeowner Madonna Badger - who is Matthew Badgers estranged, disposed of embers from the fireplace in the rear of the home, starting the fire. Badger and Borcina were the only survivors of the fire that claimed the lives of the three girls, and Badgers parents, Lomer and Pauline Johnson.
