A correctional officer in Connecticut has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to illegally using and distributing steroids to his coworkers in the area.

Hamden resident Nicholas Aurora, Jr., 34, has been sentenced to three years of probation - including six months of home confinement - for illegally distributing anabolic steroids, John Durham, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced this week. He must also pay a $2,000 fine and perform 200 hours of community service.

According to court documents and statements made in court, in December last year, the Statewide Narcotics Task Force West conducted a court-authorized search of a residence in Hamden and seized approximately 25,000 pills and 530 vials of anabolic steroids of a suspect. Subsequent investigation of the suspect's cell phone revealed numerous text messages relating to Aurora’s purchase and redistribution of steroids.

The police investigation into the steroids determined that Aurora was purchasing steroids from his source of supply every two weeks, some of which he personally used, some that he sold at a profit to coworkers in the Connecticut Department of Corrections. Aurora pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute anabolic steroids on March 14. His probation and home confinement began this week.
