Three law officers were killed and three others wounded in the ambush by a man identified by police as Gavin Long of Kansas City, Mo.

Long, an African-American and Iraq War veteran, was shot dead in a subsequent gun battle with police.

Killed were sheriff’s deputies Brad Garafola and Matthew Gerald and police Officer Montrell Jackson.

Flags, which had already been at half-staff in honor of the victims of the attack in France, will remain lowered until sunset Friday, Malloy said.

In that tragedy, a Tunisian man identified as Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, drove a truck through a crowd of people celebrating Bastille Day in Nice.

He killed 84 people and left more than 300 injured.

Lahouaiej-Bouhlel was shot dead by police.

Malloy said that since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags – including municipal and corporate ones – should also be lowered through sunset Friday.
