More Details On Newtown Shootings Coming Next Week

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The state will release information about the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School by Friday, March 29, Gov. Dannel Malloy said Thursday.

Information about the Sandy Hook shooting has been held back from the public and media as law enforcement said they continued to investigate.

“Today, my office contacted the chief state’s attorney.  I requested, and they have agreed, to release additional information relevant to the investigation and to provide a status on where the investigation currently stands," Malloy said in a statement.

The type of information that can "reasonably be shared" is still up to the state's attorney and law enforcement, Malloy said. But he added that he was confused as to why state Rep. Lawrence Cafero, R-Norwalk, and law enforcement needed a special briefing on the tragedy in order to take a position on potential legislative responses, including gun control, background checks and mental health issues. Cafero is the House minority leader.

“To Mr. Cafero and those others I must ask: what more could you possibly need to know?" Malloy said. “I ask again – what more does Mr. Cafero need to know before he’s finally ready to take action?”
