Strong Winds Cause Power Outages Across New Canaan

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Strong winds gusting up to 45 mph on Sunday are causing power outages across Fairfield County.

Here are the number of outages as of 11 p.m. Sunday as reported by Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating, by town: 

  • Danbury: 95 
  • Darien: 13 
  • Easton: 2 
  • Fairfield: 208 
  • Greenwich: 33 
  • New Canaan: 88
  • Norwalk: 23 
  • Redding: 4 
  • Ridgefield: 108 
  • Stamford: 51
  • Weston: 44
  • Westport: 89 
  • Wilton: 140 

Power outages reported earlier in Bridgeport have been repaired. 

A wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday. Winds are out of the northwest at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, according to the weather service.

Some trees and branches may fall onto power lines, causing scattered power outages. The winds will make driving difficult on bridges and elevated roads, the weather service warns.

The forecast for Sunday calls for sunny skies with a high of about 48 degrees.
