NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Former "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams’ six-month suspension is now over, reports CNN .

The new position for Williams, a New Canaan resident, with MSNBC as a breaking news anchor will begin in mid-September, according to the report.

Williams had been suspended without pay since February after admitting on air that he had misrepresented his role in a mission in Iraq in 2003. He claimed he had been aboard a helicopter that was forced down by a rocket-propelled grenade, which was not true.

NBC Universal subsequently followed up with a review of his reporting in the field and commentary related to his reporting for more than 10 years and found that Williams made various inaccurate statements about his experiences.

Williams was fired from his position as anchor and managing editor of "NBC Nightly News" as part of the fallout from the scandal. He was replaced by Lester Holt as anchorman.
