Danny continues to weaken from the Category 3 hurricane status it achieved Friday as it interacts with stronger wind shear and drier air, the story said. As of 8 p.m. Saturday, Danny was downgraded to a tropical storm, the story said.

The west-to-northwest heading of Danny will take the system across or near the northern islands of the Caribbean during the first part of the week, the story said.

Bands of locally heavy rain and some gusty winds associated with Danny are expected to reach the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico Monday night into Tuesday and then Hispaniola later Tuesday into Wednesday, the story said.
