What's On Your Mind, New Canaan?

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The Supreme Court ruling on Obamacare, preparations for a trip to Japan and a very late Christmas party were some of the things on the minds of people in New Canaan Thursday.

Orin Grossman, 67, of Fairfield, was thinking “victory” in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s 5-4 vote upholding President Barack Obama's healthcare measure. “The Supreme Court did the right thing,” said Grossman, who acknowledged that his might not be an opinion shared by many in New Canaan, where Republicans outnumber Democrats 2 to 1. “The big thing is they supported the constitutionality of the healthcare law.”

Sam Lavieri, 20, back in his hometown after a year at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, was thinking about what cellphone he should get for his trip to Japan. He will spend three weeks in Tokyo working for IBM on market research. “I’m wondering if I should get an iPhone or a loaner phone,” said Lavieri, who has an Android phone that won’t serve him in Japan.

Theresa DiPasquale, who works at the office of Dr. Lawrence DeLibero, was thinking about the weather. She was heading home to Monroe to relax and was looking forward to the weekend and hanging out with her family by the pool.

“I like it hot,” DiPasquale said. “As long as it’s not stifling hot, it’s good.”

Kim Slater, 38, was enjoying Thursday’s weather while taking a short break from her job at Benefit Beauty Bar on Elm Street. “It’s why I stepped outside to get some of this sunshine,” she said.

Joan Corn and her colleagues at Wave Jewelry Store were looking forward to their annual Christmas party. Corn said the jewelry shop holds the holiday party in the summer because people are a lot less stressed. It’s become something of a fun tradition for the ladies, who planned to have their party at Elm restaurant on Elm Street. “It’s Christmas in June,” she said.
