NEW CANAAN, Conn. - Dorothy Marie Hutchinson, nee Swinnerton, died Tuesday, Oct. 22. She was 91.

Hutchinson was born May 10, 1922, in Stamford, to Arthur and Margaret Swinnerton. She graduated from Stamford High School. She worked as an executive secretary, first for the Special Education Office of the New Canaan Public Schools; then for many years as the executive secretary to the First Selectman of New Canaan. She retired at the age of 82, after having begun her years of service to the schools and to the town of New Canaan in 1968. She served 36 continuous years. She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, The Hannah Benedict Chapter of New Canaan.

Hutchinson is survived by her sister, Joan Lewis of Greenwich; children, Nancy Hutchinson Erdmann of Cambridge, Mass., Robert E. Hutchinson of Norwalk, Carol M. Hutchinson of Wellesley, Mass., David C. Hutchinson of Ketchum, Idaho, Alan J. Hutchinson of Chicago, Ill., and Glenn A. Hutchinson of Wilton; daughters-in-law, Georgia and Karen Hutchinson of Ketchum, Idaho, and Chicago, Ill.; son-in-law, Anthony C. Erdmann, M.D., of Cambridge, Mass.; and 12 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Charles Hutchinson.

Calling hours are Friday, Oct. 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hoyt Funeral Home . A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at St. Aloysius Church. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Hutchinson’s memory may be made to Family 4th, c/o Town of New Canaan , 77 Main St, New Canaan, CT 06840.
