Frederick Albert Gricius, 90, Of New Canaan, WWII Veteran, Music Therapist

NEW CANAAN, Conn. - Frederick Albert Gricius of New Canaan died Wednesday, Oct. 8. He was 90.

Gricius served in the U.S. Navy during World War II under the Pacific Theater of Operations as a radio operator and anti-aircraft gunner on a PT boat. He was discharged in 1946.

He received a bachelor's degree in Music Education from the New England Conservatory of Music in 1950. He began a career teaching music to schoolchildren in Maine, New York and Cape Cod while receiving a master's degree in music from Boston University in 1956. He was a music therapist at the VA Hospital in Brockton, Mass.

Gricius is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Kathleen from his first marriage; stepdaughter, Mary Neumann; a grandson; and two great-granddaughters. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Christofori; daughter, Joanne Gricius.

Calling hours from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien. A graveside service is scheduled at noon Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Pine Hills Cemetery, West Bridgewater, Mass.
