Glenn Varga, 53, Lifelong New Canaan Resident

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Glenn T. Varga, a lifelong resident of New Canaan, died suddenly on June 20 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 53. 

Born Oct. 5, 1958 in Stamford, he was the son of Theodore Varga and the late Grace Brown Varga. A self-employed carpenter, Varga loved to play softball and football. He was an avid New York Mets and Minnesota Vikings fan. 

He enjoyed helping neighbors, fishing and "bucket" gardening. Varga was a former member of the New Canaan Volunteer Fire Department. 

Varga is survived by his father, Theodore; a sister, Donna Matthews, of Windsor, Conn. and a brother, Stephen (Joan) Varga, of Southbury, Conn. 

A memorial service will be held at noon Friday at Hoyt Funeral Home in New Canaan. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Canaan Volunteer Fire Department, 60 Main St., New Canaan, CT 06840 or the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 180 South Ave., New Canaan, CT 06840.
