Harriet Schutte, 92, Of New Canaan

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Harriet Schutte, 92, a lifelong resident of New Canaan, died Tuesday, Sept. 22.

She was born in Stamford on Feb. 28, 1923. She was the daughter of Charles and Julia Sullivan Weed. 

She was the wife of the late George W. Schutte. who died in 2010. They were married for 68 years. 

She was a member of the New Canaan High School class of 1941 and later graduated from Shorts Secretarial School in Stamford. 

She had worked as a secretary for the Atlas Powder Co. She was also a member of the New Canaan VFW Auxiliary, the AARP and had been a Den Mother for the Girl and Boy Scouts. 

Her most cherished memories were cooking for the family at the holidays.

Survivors include her son, Paul Schutte of Centreville, Va.; a daughter, Janet Schutte of New Canaan; and a sister, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Valerie Blasius; two sisters; and one brother.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 24 from 5-8 p.m. at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at St Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan.
