Herbert Seltzer, 89, Of New Canaan, Retired Lockheed Electronics Employee

NEW CANAAN, Conn. - Herbert Richard Maria Seltzer of New Canaan died Monday, Dec. 30. He was 89.

Seltzer was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Philadelphia; son of Rose Rolan and Harry Louis Seltzer. He graduated from Penn State University with a BS in Engineering and MS in engineering and Business Management. He also attended Leeds University in England and the University of Pennsylvania. After joining ITT in 1974, he was appointed VP for domestic communications for satellites and microwave projects. He retired from Lockheed Electronics in 1989.

After moving to New Canaan in 1979, he became a board member of the New Canaan Society of the Arts, chairman of the Utilities Commission which he served for 25 years. He also served as board member of the Yale School of Medicine Eye Center and an advisory board member to the Aquarion Water Company. He was also a church acolyte at St. Aloysius Parish and a cooperator in Opus Dei.

Seltzer is survived by his wife, Adeline Marie Seltzer; daughters, Nadine Seltzer of New Canaan and Carole Anne Collins (William J.); a granddaughter; brother, Fred Seltzer (Dora) of Bogota, Colombia; sisters, Natalie Hoffman and Sandra Shannon both living in Baltimore; and numerous nieces and nephews in the U.S. and abroad.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6 at St. Aloysius Church, Cherry St., New Canaan with interment to follow in St Johns Cemetery, Norwalk.
