James Drenckhahn, 64, Of New Canaan, Founder Of Drenckhahn Excavating

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- On Thursday, Jan. 15, James "Jim" Edward Drenckhahn, died at home in New Canaan of brain cancer. He was 64.

Drenckhahn was born in Stamford, Conn., on June 1, 1951. He was the second of six children born to Fred and Elaine Drenckhahn. He grew up in Stamford and received his diploma from Stamford Catholic High School, class of 1969, and graduated from Iona College with a bachelor's degree in business in 1974. Drenckhahn was the founder and owner of Drenckhahn Excavating, in Stamford, celebrating his 40th year in business this past fall. 

He was the beloved husband of Kim; father of Jonathan and Kristin; and grandfather to two grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Monday, Jan. 19 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Shippan's Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., Stamford, Conn. 06902.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at The Church of Saint Cecilia on 1184 Newfield Ave. in Stamford. Burial will follow at St.John's Cemetery at 25 Camp Ave. in Darien, Conn.
