NEW CANAAN, Conn. - Leona K. Wolfgruber of New Canaan died March 12. She was 92.
Wolfgruber was born in Tonawanda, N.Y., on Aug. 21, 1920, to Christopher and Helen Sahr Kumro. She graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo as a registered nurse and worked at the Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo. After a brief period in Gouverneur, N.Y., she moved to Arkport, N.Y., where her husband established his medical practice.
Wolfgruber was active in the Arkport Presbyterian Church community for over 50 years and was a substitute teacher at the Arkport Central School and as well as a nurse in both hospitals in Hornell, N.Y. In 2001, she moved to New Canaan, to be near her family. She has been a resident of the New Canaan Inn and, since 2004, the Village at Waveny Care Center.
Wolfgruber is survived by her son, Kurt Wolfgruber; four grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Paul J. Wolfgruber, MD.
Calling hours are Saturday, March 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at 4 p.m. in the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan, CT 06840.
