Richard M. Crowley Of New Canaan, Founded TPM Constructors, Sailor

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — Richard M. Crowley, a longtime New Canaan resident and avid sailor, died Saturday, March 11.

Crowley spent his career in the construction business. He was founder and president of TPM Constructors Inc.

He and his wife, Helen Marie Brady, made their home in New Canaan for nearly four decades. 

Crowley was born in Short Hills, N.J., and his spent childhood summers in Southold, N.Y., where he learned to sail. He would share that lifelong passion for many summers with his family on Cape Cod. 

He was member of the New York Yacht Club and The Stamford Yacht Club.

He graduated from Xavier High School in New York, N.Y., and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he received his commission in the U.S. Marine Corps. 

In addition to his wife Helen, he is survived by his children Dick Jr. (Shelby), Cathleen (Joseph), Mary Beth (Tim), Michael and Sharon; and grandchildren Katherine, Elizabeth, Jack, Sophia and Grace.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Bernard Crowley, and mother, Florence Tynan Crowley; sister Joan; and brothers George and Billy. 

The family will receive friends at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan, on Thursday, March 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 17, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church, New Canaan. Interment will follow immediately at Lakeview Cemetery.
