GREENWICH, Conn. – Ruth Yanosik Goss, a lifelong Greenwich resident, died Nov. 20 at her home. She was 86.

Goss was born Nov. 6, 1926, to George Colvin Yanosik and Elizabeth Truewood Hendren. She attended public schools, graduating from Greenwich High School in 1944. She later graduated from the Yale School of Fine Arts.

She worked as an art teacher in the Greenwich school system. She later worked as a substitute teacher while raising a family. Goss enjoyed encouraging children and adults to find their unique artistic expression, her family said. She taught craft and art classes at the YWCAs in Greenwich and New Canaan, at her church, at the Bruce Museum and in after-school programs in Greenwich.

Goss loved her hometown, including its proximity to New York City museums and galleries but especially Island Beach and Tod’s Point. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich, serving as deacon and volunteering in numerous capacities.

She is survived by her husband of more than 60 years, Dean L. Goss; four children, Wendy G. Salisbury, of Norwalk, Judith G. Goss, of Greenwich, Dean C. Goss, of Greenwich, and Martha W. Cava, of Roxbury; and six grandchildren.

Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 28 at Putnam Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at First Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
