Services For New Canaan's Robert Jansen Set For Saturday

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Funeral services for Robert Allan Jansen will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Congregational Church at 23 Park St. in New Canaan.

Jansen, a New Canaan native who worked as a geologist, died Aug. 25 while mountain climbing in Pitkin County, Colo. He was 24. Jansen worked as a geology technician with the Bill Barrett Corp. in Colorado.

He was born Aug. 7, 1988, at New York Hospital in Manhattan, the son of Bill and Peggy Jansen of New Canaan. He graduated from New Canaan High School in 2007 and from Dickinson College in 2011 with a degree in geology.

Jansen was a co-captain of the 2007 boys track team at New Canaan High that won the state championship. He was on the 4×800 relay team that was named second-team all-state that year. Jansen also ran on the cross country and indoor track teams after playing soccer his freshman year at New Canaan High. 

A reception will be held after the funeral at the Roger Sherman Inn, 195 Oneoke Ridge.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Rescue Aspen or to the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
