NEW CANAAN, Conn. - William Alexander (Alec) Taylor of New Canaan died Monday, June 10. He was 87.
Taylor was born Nov. 19, 1925, in New York City to Virginia Peale Taylor and William Lamont Taylor, he grew up in Llewellyn Park in New Jersey, attended Buxton Country Day School, Deerfield Academy and Carteret Academy. After starting his college education at Brown University, he was drafted into the Army, returning after the war to graduate with the class of 1949. Taylor moved to New Canaan in 1957 after his marriage.
Taylor’s early career was spent in the advertising business in New York, where he worked at Young & Rubicam, Dancer Fitzgerald Sample and Norman, Craig & Kummel, among others. Later in his career, at Sidney A. Staunton Associates in New Canaan, he served as a consultant. Through his consulting work, he became a director of The Bailey Corporation in Seabrook, N.H. before retiring in 1996. During his retirement, he became involved in several local organizations, serving as a vice president and member of the board of directors of the Waveny Chamber Music Society, and was a member of the New Canaan Roundtable discussion group.
Taylor is survived by his wife, Julie; children, Peter Newton Taylor, Catharine Peale Taylor (Gregory G. Farrell), and William Howes Taylor; three grandchildren; brother, Irving K. (Sandy) Taylor; sister, Rosamund Marcus; and two nieces.
