Connecticut State Police Issue More Tickets, Report Two Fatal Accidents

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Connecticut State Police Troopers handed out more tickets over the Memorial Day weekend this year compared with last year. 

And two fatalities occurred on state roadways over the holiday weekend in 2015, when no one was killed in accidents in 2014. 

Connecticut State Police issued 1,254 tickets for speeding, 1,454 for seatbelt violations and 4,548 for other moving violations, including 549 others for offenses such as texting or using a cellphone while driving.

State police also made 57 drunken-driving arrests.

Last year, state police handed out 1,248 speeding tickets, 954 seatbelt citations and 4,142 moving violation tickets and made 54 drunken driving arrests.

State police say they investigated 285 accidents over the weekend, including two with fatalities. Another 49 crashes involved injuries.

Last year, they investigated 301 accidents, 54 of which involved injuries. There were no fatalities in 2014.
