NEW CANAAN, Conn. — New Canaan residents are being warned to step up security at their homes after a third day-time break-in.

The most recent was reported last Friday by an Indian Rock Road resident who returned home from vacation to find his house in disarray with drawers open and items on the floor, “it was obvious someone had been inside,” Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said.

Police found a door open when they arrived on scene, she said.

An Imari Asian bowl and plate valued at $500 each, Razr golf clubs valued at $1,500, miscellaneous jewelry including a Jaeger-LeCoultre Moon Phase watch valued at $12,000 and a wedding ring with baguette diamonds valued at $15,000, and a safe containing “a few thousand” dollars were missing from the home, Ogrinc said.

The victim reported being away from March 15 through the 29th.

The other two incidents took place earlier in March. A home on North Wilton Road was broken into between noon and 3 p.m. on March 12. A home on Long Lots Road was broken into between noon and 3 p.m. the veru next day.

Jewelry, electronics, and other valuables were reported missing in both cases, the release said.

Police previously reported that a blue van with Florida plates and no rear hubcaps was seen in the area during the March 12 burglary.

The police department wants to remind people to secure their homes and activate alarm systems whenever they leave, the release said. The department will also check on homes if residents go away for an extended period of time, the release said.

Residents can report suspicious activity by calling the police department at 203-594-3500 or in an emergency call 9-1-1.
