Officers determined her identity just after midnight early Friday, police said.

Her identity is not being released to the public at this time, police said.

The Danbury Police Department is thanking the media and the public "who were integral in assisting us with this investigation. Through the photographs and information which were disseminated by the media to the public, we were able to quickly identify the mother."

The investigation is continuing, police said.

On Thursday, Danbury police released 911 calls and photos of clothing in an effort to find the mother.

Police received a 911 call at 11:38 p.m. Sunday that a newborn baby boy had been found wrapped in several pieces of women's clothing in the bushes behind Zaytuna Grocery Store at 397 Main St., police said. The baby was cold and crying with his umbilical cord still attached, but was listed in good condition on Wednesday.

The location where the baby was found is about a block away from the police station.

Under Connecticut's Safe Haven Act for Newborns, the parent of an infant 30 days or younger can leave the baby at a hospital and not face prosecution for abandonment. For more information on the laws, click here.
