“On behalf of Maury [Povich] and everyone at 'The Maury Show,' we are deeply saddened by this profound tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this incredibly difficult time,” said an email from the show at the Advocate website.

Stamford police are investigating after the baby died after being trapped between the mattress and wall in a Stamford hotel.

The 27-year-old mother awoke Wednesday morning to discover that the baby girl was lying on a pillow wedged into a tight space between the bed and the wall in a room at the Crowne Plaza Stamford  at 2701 Summer St., police said

The baby wasn't breathing, police said. A resident at the hotel was performing CPR on the baby when police and EMS arrived at about 7:10 a.m. Wednesday.

EMS attempted to revive the baby. She was transported to Stamford Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The mother told officers she believed the baby must have fallen off the bed during the night and became lodged within the tight crevice, police said.

An autopsy will be performed Thursday.

The Department of Children and Family Services and Child Guidance were notified and responded to the hospital to assist in the investigation.
