Police told the Stamford Advocate that 30-year-old Tracey Burgess had been banging on the victim's door and yelling for him to come out, and at one point kicked in a door thinking it belonged to the victim. He then saw the victim and began waving a knife at him, according to the Stamford Advocate.

He slashed the man several times, including above the left eye on on his shoulder, according to the Stamford Advocate. He was eventually detained by witnesses before being taken into custody by police, according to the Stamford Advocate.
