BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A former Norwalk man was sentenced to prison Monday to distributing heroin that contributed to the overdose death of a Bridgeport woman last year.

Richard Piske, 34, of Manchester, was sentenced Monday to 18 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, according to John H. Durham, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

According to court documents, early in the morning of June 29, 2016, police and emergency medical personnel responded to a Bridgeport home on a report of an apparent overdose. When they arrived, they found the body of a deceased 25-year-old woman on the floor of a bedroom. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined that the woman died from acute heroin, cocaine and alcohol intoxication, according to Durham.

An investigation revealed that the woman's boyfriend had purchased heroin the day before from Piske, who was living in Norwalk at the time, according to Durham. Later that day, the woman and her boyfriend both ingested the heroin they purchased from Piske, Durham said.

Piske was arrested on Sept. 29, 2016, and on Aug. 24, 2017, he pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of heroin.

Piske is released on a $25,000 bond, and was ordered to report to prison on Jan. 3, 2018.
