NEW CANAAN, Conn. — A 39-year-old homeless man was arrested Monday after he sent text messages threatening to kill New Canaan residents and violated a protective order, police said.

The case began Monday, Nov. 27, when an unspecified number of New Canaan residents and a Seattle resident reported they had received threatening text messages from Keith A. Wolfe, New Canaan police said in a statement.

In the texts, Wolfe made threatens that consisted of "traveling to New Canaan and inflicting bodily harm and death to the victims," police said. Wolfe is barred from contacting the victims due to a protective order from the state of Washington, police said.

Officers determined that Wolfe had sent the threatening texts from his cellphone and they obtained a warrant for his arrest, police said.

On Nov. 29, New Canaan police determined that Wolfe was in the area of West 72nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

"New Canaan investigators immediately responded to this location and with the assistance of NYPD took Wolfe into custody," police said in a statement.

He was held by the New York Department of Correction, until an extradition hearing.

On Monday morning, New Canaan officers traveled to Manhattan to take Wolfe into custody. Wolfe was taken to New Canaan police headquarters, where he was charged with second-degree threatening and violation of a protective order. He was held on $50,000 bond for a court appearance on Dec. 12.

New Canaan Police said no further details would be released on the case because it is a domestic dispute.
