Lt. Thomas Matera said police had information that the man was alive and were able to confirm it by meeting with him on Sunday.

The man's disappearance had sparked a massive hunt after officers responded to the area of 22 Wall St. at about 12:18 a.m. Sept. 16. When officers arrived, they were told that three men had fallen into the Norwalk River, police said.

They saw two men climbing out of the water, with a third man in the distance, swimming toward the Wall Street overpass, police said.

The officers immediately went to the area, but lost sight of the man, according to police. A search ensued, with the Norwalk Police Marine Unit and the Norwalk Fire Department combing the river.

The Connecticut State Police Dive Team was also requested to respond with additional specialized equipment.

The two men who climbed out of the water declined medical attention.

Matera didn't release information on the man or information on how investigators were able to find him.
