The resident received a package at his home with the proper address but with a different name on it, police said. He later saw a man on his property and contacted police just before 10:30 a.m., giving a detailed description of the man and his vehicle, police said.
Officers stopped the vehicle on Old Stamford Road near Weed Street, police said.
One of the three men in the vehicle, passenger Eleudys Hernandez, said they were doing charity work in the area by picking up donated property, police said.
However, police believe the only charity work involved was of the self-help kind as officers discovered what they said were several fraudulent driver's licenses, including one that had the same name as was on the package delivered to Knapp Lane, police said.
The package contained an Apple iPhone and informational material from Asurion, a cellular phone insurance company, police said.
Eleudys Hernandez, 27, of 219 E 178 St.; Jesus Rivera, 42, of 2541 Aqueduct Ave.; and Randolph Brown, 53, of 775 E236 St., are each charged with six counts of second-degree forgery, and one count each of criminal attempt of fifth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny. Each man was arraigned in state Superior Court in Norwalk on Tuesday.
Hernandez bond is set at $30,000, while the bond for Brown was set at $15,000. Rivera's bond was set at $10,000.
An investigation is ongoing to determine whether the three men were involved in other criminal activities, police said.
