New Canaan police were called to Acme on Elm Street at about 10:50 a.m. about the baby, who was left inside a car with the engine running and the air conditioning on, police said.

Natarine Hilton, who lives in Old Greenwich and works for an unidentified family in New Canaan, had gone into Acme to buy items, police said. A caller alerted police.

Officers made contact with Hilton at the home of her employers and issued her a misdemeanor summons for leaving a child unattended, police said.

She was released on a promise to appear in court on Oct. 9.
