New Canaan Chief Of Police Opposes Budget Cuts By Selectmen

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Accompanied by police captains and commissioners, New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski addressed the town's Finance Board Feb. 4 and told members an officer at Saxe Middle School would be eliminated if the 2017 police salary budget is slashed by $66,000, the New Canaan Advertiser reported.

He also said the overtime budget reduction of $84,000 proposed, while on trend with the way the town addresses overtime, would not be in reach, the New Canaan Advertiser wrote. Further, he told the board that vehicle expense reductions of $36,000 would necessitate buying more vehicles at one time and lead to more repair costs, said the New Canaan Advertiser.

The Selectmen's proposed cuts of $187,137 would still make the police department budget proposal $100,000 higher than this year's, said the New Canaan Advertiser.
