NEW CANAAN, Conn. — A New Canaan man was arrested twice over this past weekend in connection with a dispute with his girlfriend, Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said Monday.

The first arrest took place Saturday night, Ogrinc said. Jayson Nelson, 34, would not let his girlfriend leave his apartment and at one point grabbed the bag she was holding and pulled back causing her to fall, Ogrinc said. When the victim fell, she hit her side on a table and received a “pretty big” bruise, she said.

Once the girlfriend was able to leave, Nelson followed her to Verizon, causing a scene in the store, and then into the parking lot after being told to leave the store, Ogrinc said.

He was charged with disorderly conduct and second-degree breach of peace Saturday night, the sergeant said. He was released on a promise to appear, and part of his conditions of release was that he was not allowed to contact the victim in any way, Ogrinc said.

On Sunday morning, the girlfriend called police and shared phone calls, voicemails and text messages she had received from Nelson after his release, Ogrinc said. Officers went to the suspect’s house and charged him with six counts of violating conditions of release, Ogrinc said.

He posted $10,000 bond after the second arrest and was scheduled to appear in court Monday.

A warrant is pending on another charge of violating conditions of release, when he contacted her again either while on route to the hospital or at the hospital, Ogrinc said. He was sent to Norwalk Hospital for observation after the first arrest, she said.
