NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A New Canaan man is facing a felony charge of child pornography possession after New Canaan police said he was found to have more than 50 illegal images on his computer.

Elliot L. Maynes, 21, of 283 Buttery Road, was charged Tuesday with first-degree possession of child pornography, a class B felony. Police said Maynes turned himself in at about 2:15 p.m. after he was told there was a warrant for his arrest.

Police said the investigation began last Tuesday when a PC Richard & Sons technician told officers that child pornography was found on a laptop computer that Maynes brought to the Norwalk store for repairs. Police said they obtained a search and seizure warrant and found more than 50 items, both pictures and videos, on the machine.

Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said technicians who believe they have found child pornography on a computer usually notify the police department of the city or town where its owner lives.

Maynes was released on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear on July 27 in Norwalk Superior Court.
