NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A New Canaan man tried to flood a jail cell with toilet paper and his underwear, New Canaan Police said.
Andrew Knopf, 44, of Urban Street, was charged on Jan. 2 with risk of injury to a minor, a felony, second-degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, refusal to obey an officer, misdemeanors, and refusal to be fingerprinted, a violation.
Police said they were called to Urban Street at about 10:15 p.m. for a call about a dispute. Officers confronted Knopf, who they said was intoxicated.
After speaking with a complainant, police arrested Knopf. Police said Knopf had been confrontational with officers, threatened them and used profanity.
Knopf was placed in a cell at the New Canaan Police Department due to his intoxication and erratic behavior, police said. Police said Knopf urinated on the floor of the cell and also tried to flood the cell with toilet paper and then with his underwear.
Police said Knopf later complained of chest pain and was taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment. According to state court records, Knopf is being held on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear on Jan. 16 in Norwalk Superior Court.
