NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan police were looking into who may have tried to rent out a home that was not on the market.
Police received a call July 25 from an Arkansas woman who noticed an advertisement on Craigslist showing a Daveny Road home that was available for rent for $700 a month. The woman was looking for homes and apartments for rent and found the low rent suspicious, police said.
Detectives became suspicious because the rental rate was below market value for New Canaan. Officers also discovered that the home was occupied. Police said they are not sure whether someone was trying to get money for the home or was trying to harass the resident living there.
The following items were also reported to New Canaan Police:
• Erin Bozeth, 32, of East Avenue, was arrested on a warrant Friday and charged with third-degree larceny in the theft of a pair of rings from an East Avenue home, police said. Police said a 49-year-old woman contacted police last Monday when she noticed some jewelry missing and said she was suspicious of Bozeth, who was dating her son. Police found out that the woman’s jewelry, a $2,500 emerald diamond ring and a $350 men’s gold wedding band, had been sold to a Wilton pawn shop. The woman also told police that Bozeth had said she had gotten lost on the evening of July 26 on Danbury Road in Wilton. According to state court records, Bozeth was released on a promise to appear Aug. 20 in Norwalk Superior Court.
• Furniture and clothing belonging to a South Bald Hill Road man went missing during a move, police said. The man moved to New Canaan from New York on May 18. He told police last Tuesday that several packed items were not moved to the home, including two nesting tables, an alpaca shag rug, a men’s suit, two J.Crew sweaters and a pair of Alden Tassel loafers valued at $3,000.
• A diamond earring switch was reported by a 33-year-old Valley Road woman, police said. She noticed last Monday that her earrings were missing and fake diamonds earrings were in their place. The woman told police she had worn the items two weeks earlier. The earrings are three-fourths of a karat and valued at $10,000 each.
