New Canaan Police Stop 100 In Enforcement Effort

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – One hundred drivers were stopped Tuesday by New Canaan police officers in an expanded effort to crack down on traffic violations.

Capt. Leon Krolikowski said Wednesday that between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday, officers stopped motorists who were found speeding, using cell phones while driving, not obeying traffic signs and signals and violating other traffic rules. Of those, 42 drivers were issued tickets.

A previous traffic enforcement effort resulted in 85 vehicle stops, Krolikowski said.

“The New Canaan Police Department is serious about enforcing Connecticut’s traffic laws in an effort to reduce the frequency and severity of motor vehicle accidents within the Town of New Canaan,” he said.

“Due to the hard work of the officers involved, this day exceeded my expectations,” Krolikowski said, praising officers for “excellent work by all in the name of traffic safety.”

Krolikowski said he expects another enhanced traffic enforcement day to take place in the near future.
