New Canaan Recruits Graduate From Connecticut Fire Academy

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Recruit Class No. 52 of the Connecticut Fire Academy, including firefighters representing fire departments in Danbury, Fairfield, New Canaan, Norwalk and Ridgefield, completed their 14-week training program earlier this month.

Their graduation ceremony took place Friday, Dec. 6, at the Parson's Government Center in Milford.

The recruits have been undergoing intensive daily training at the Academy since Aug. 26.

The core program components are to establish a strong desire for self-discipline, teamwork, company morale and precision.

Additional course components include training in Hazardous Materials Mitigation, Weapons of Mass Destruction Preparedness, Confined Space Rescue, CPR Defibrillator and Technical Rescue.

The graduating recruits will be nationally certified to the level of Firefighter I and Firefighter II in addition to being awarded numerous certificates for specialized training.

The class roster also includes firefighters from Andover, Bridgeport, East Haven, East Wallingford, Franklin, Gales Ferry, Goshen, Manchester, Milford, Naugatuck, North Haven, Southington, Stratford, and UConn.
