Norwalk Man, 31, Charged With Abusing 2-Year-Old Girl

NORWALK, Conn. — A 31-year-old Norwalk man was charged Thursday with child abuse following an investigation by the Norwalk Police Department's special victims unit, police said.

The investigation began May 26 after police received a report of child abuse from the Department of Children and Families, police said.

The investigation determined that Pedro Salinas, 31, had assaulted a 2-year-old girl living with family at his residence and caused her serious injuries, police said.

The child had been taken to Norwalk Hospital after suffering what was believed to be medical condition, police said. She was later transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital due to the seriousness of her condition, police said.

Norwalk police arrested Salinas at Norwalk Superior Court, where he was appearing on another criminal matter, police said.

Salinas was charged with first-degree assault, cruelty to persons and risk of injury to a minor. His bond was set at $150,000 with a court date of July 21, police said.
