Last week, a woman contacted police to report that Jesse Cardenas, 32, of First Street had attacked her during a domestic dispute March 16, police said. Cardenas began hitting her when she attempted to end their relationship, the woman told police. The victim grabbed a knife to defend herself, which Cardenas took from her and used to cut her on the leg, according to her statement.
Officers found a laceration on her upper leg consistent with the story, according to police reports. Cardenas was not in the home at the time of the victim’s report, and police filed for a warrant for his arrest, which was served early Friday, police said.
When police went to the home to arrest Cardenas, the victim reported that the two had just been involved in another argument, police said. The woman told police that Cardenas had struck her on the arms and shoulder during the argument, and he took a phone away from her when she tried to call police, according to the report.
Cardenas then pinned her to a bed and grabbed an electric drill but was unable to turn it on before police arrived to serve the warrant, police said.
Cardenas was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct and one count each of second-degree assault, third-degree assault, interfering with a 911 call and a violation of probation. He was held on a combined bond of $275,000 and is due in court Friday.
