Marcel Abonyi, 20, was charged with two counts of interfering with an officer, second-degree threatening, possession of narcotics, failure to keep drugs in original container and illegal manufacture, distribution or sale of prescription drugs. He was held on a $15,000 bond.
Elio Calleja, 19, was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to keep drugs in original containers and illegal manufacture, distribution or sale of prescription drugs. He was held on a $5,000 bond. Both will appear in court Aug. 14.
Police said Abonyi called and reported his car was stolen around 1:42 a.m., Tuesday. Shortly after, officers spotted the car near the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Glenwood Avenue and stopped it. Abonyi then walked up to the scene and said that he'd learned the car hadn't actually been stolen, but his friend Calleja had borrowed it to pick up a friend, without telling him t, according to police.
Police said that Calleja did not have a license on him, and that there were two pill containers in the car with a large amount of Xanax pills. They also found a grinder with marijuana, according to police reports. Both men were taken into custody.
While at the police station, Abonyi became confrontational with officers while being processed, police said. He made multiple threats to police, and told an officer, "Take your badge off and let's go," according to police reports. While officers were trying to take his mugshot, he tried to walk away, police said. When an officer grabbed his arm and pulled him back, he again became confrontational, police said.
The next morning as he was being released Abonyi asked to speak to the lieutenant on duty. While speaking to him, Abonyi again became confrontational and agitated, and was possibly under the influence of narcotics, according to police reports. He said he didn't like the way he was being treated and that police were too aggressive with him, police said. He was told he could leave, but refused, police said.
According to police reports, Abonyi told the lieutenant that he hoped he saw him on the street, and that he was going to take out a gun and shoot him. He was then placed under arrest again for threatening, and struggled. Another officer had to be called in to assist, and he was eventually taken back into custody.
