Samuel Stroman was arrested Tuesday on a charge of sixth-degree larceny and issued a summons to appear in court July 24.

Stroman was being treated at Norwalk Hospital Tuesday when a nurse found him rummaging through her purse, according to police reports. When the nurse confronted him, Stroman took $17 in cash from her purse and stuck it in his sock. Then he put it in his underwear.

Hospital staff removed the cash and returned it to the nurse before calling the police. Two other nurses reported someone had looked through their purses as well, but nothing appeared to be missing, according to police reports.

On Sunday police said he tried to steal a dessert from Stop & Shop and assaulted the store manager when confronted. After hitting the manager in the parking lot, Stroman returned to the store and stole another dessert, according to police reports.

Earlier this month, Stroman was caught while trying to take change from a woman's car. Police said the woman was able to trap him in her car until officers arrived.
