The theft at the Merritt Place business was reported Tuesday morning, and detectives arrived on scene to investigate, the Hour reported. About $6,000 worth of landscaping equipment had been stolen, along with some copper wiring from a business on the same property, the Hour reported.
After reviewing surveillance video and canvassing a local scrap yard, they were able to identify 51-year-old Hector Serrano-Burgos as a suspect, according to the Hour. They went to his home, where they found some of the equipment and copper wiring, and he admitted to the theft, according to the Hour. Police also learned that he had sold some of the equipment to a friend, and they were able to recover it, the Hour reported.
Serrano-Burgos was charged with third-degree criminal trespass, fourth-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny, and his bond was set at $15,000.
