Officers from the Special Services Division were patrolling the housing complex at about 1:30 p.m. when they saw two people loitering, said police.
They recognized one of the individuals, a juvenile, and knew the person did not live there, according to police.
As investigators approached and began speaking with the two individuals, the minor became nervous and began turning away from them, said police.
Investigators quickly discovered the juvenile was in possession of a loaded .380-caliber handgun, police said. The firearm was seized, and the juvenile was taken into custody, police said.
The juvenile was also found to be in possession of four bags of crack cocaine, according to the police report.
The individual was charged as a juvenile with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of narcotics, and possession of narcotics near a school with intent to sell, police said.
